Ballymoon Castle : Southeast corner

There are no records pertaining to Ballymoon Castle but it was probably built between 1290 and 1310. It may have been constructed by the Carew family or the Bigods (Earls of Norfolk). Both families controlled the area during that time period. It's a large square structure with all the built in ammenities evident in the interior walls.

An excavation was performed 100 meters from the castle and no evidence was found of occupation, leading historians to question whether Ballymoon was ever completed. It is also believed that the Kavanaghs controlled this castle in the medieval era.
