Ballyloughan Castle

These are the remains of a 13^th century castle. The larger building is thought to be the gate house and the smaller is the remains of a hall. Two towers stood at either side of the gate entrance. Pieces of the outer wall and the chapel are still evident.

The castle may have been abandoned in the 14^th century. It has been the property of the Kavanagh's until the 16^th century. The Bagenal's acquired it and then it was purchased by the Bruens in the early 1800's.
