Dunmore Castle is an early Norman fort built on the site of an Irish fort, Dun Mor or Large Fort. The Normans built around 1235, and the Irish continued to try and take it back in 1249, 1284, 1315 1325.
The tower is mostly from the 16th and 17th century additions. The de Berminghams have inhabited Dunmore until the 19th century. A friary was established in 1425 by Walter de Bermingham.
