Kiernans Holy Well :

St. Kieran is also known as Kieran Saighir or Kevin the Elder. He was born in 375 A.D. and is one of the first Irish Saints. Legend states that Kieran went to Rome to learn of the new religion. Upon his return to Ireland 20 years later, Kieran met St. Patrick. St. Patrick gave him a bell and stated that he should build a monastery where the bell rang. The bell rang at Bellhill, Clareen, so there he built his monastery.

March 5th is St. Kieran's Day. It is celebrated by a procession to the well, to St. Kieran's Bush, the old cathedral of Ossory, and then back to the well. The water from the well is purported to cure headaches.

Here is a lovely site with more information about St. Kieran's Day
