Ath Theine Crosa Arsa -There are two high crosses located in Ahenny. Both are covered in beautiful celtic designs. Only the bases of the crosses had any biblical carvings on them. Due to the designs on the crosses, they have been dated as 8th century but could have been carved as late as the 9th century. The bases, that the crosses are set on, have deteriorated greatly. We could not identify the carvings. The north cross base is supposed to have a cleric carrying a cross, a pony with a headless man, a chariot with passengers, and finally a panel with Christ and six apostles. |
